HDDBOOST Fuses SSDs with HDDs for Speed Made Cheap
Written by -=TyranT=-

So, the HDDBOOST may be ridiculously brilliant. It's a hard drive bay that offers SATA connections to both a normal hard drive and a solid state drive. Ultimately, it promises the speeds of SSD with the storage capacity of HDD.

Here's how it works:

With no additional software, a 32GB SSD (recommended size, that you install) mirrors a chunk of data from your HDD, allowing it to act as a high speed data buffer, starting processes quickly while your computer only combs through your slower HDD-based files as necessary.

Of course, everything won't be SSD speed, but manufacturer SilverStone still promises a 150% speed increase across your entire computing experience. That number is a bit hard to swallow, given the fact that there's no intelligent optimization (that we've heard of, at least) guiding HDDBOOST to only copy over the most used, most beneficial files for speed increases. Then again, the idea certainly makes some level sense. And for $55 (available in Japan only at the moment), the HDDBOOST isn't a huge financial risk.

 OLED Boardgame 01

When you say board games we all immediately think of games with cardboard and lots of little pieces like Monopoly that have been around for decades. In the future board games might not be what many of us know them as with a new OLED technology that has been developed.

CrudenHexatech Racing Simulator
Written by -=TyranT=-

We’ve seen many racing simulators in the past, and the Cruden Hexatech has certainly got to be one of the most expensive ones, chalking up a bill of $191,000. For that princely sum, you’ll get a simulator that is completely suspended on a hydraulic tripod, allowing you to simulate F1, NASCAR, WRC and Le Mans races. You’ll be able to receive feedback from the chassis, track, tire, suspension settings, drive trains, aero load, and all sorts of stuff. It comes with three 42-inch screens, but since you’re rich enough to get this, you could always get a specially built room and project the images on those walls, right?

Is XBox Live coming to Window Mobile?
Written by -=TyranT=-

Is Xbox Live on Windows Mobile going to be the next big thing? It certainly seems possible, and Microsoft looks like it thinks so, and confirmed by a job posting. The search is on for a Principle Program Manager who would be responsible for bringing “Xbox Live enabled games to Windows Mobile”. Microsoft seems particularly interested in “avatar integration, social interaction and multi-screen experiences”. Let’s hope that we’ll be seeing some really interesting developments in 2010, especially in the mobile gaming scene.

New Touchscreen Technology Coming Soon?
Written by -=TyranT=-

you’ve been paying attention to touchscreen technology, you’ll know that there are resistive screens and capacitive screens, but have you heard of Interpolating Force-Sensitive Resistance (I.F.S.R) technology? It certainly sounds like something out of a Star Wars flick (though unfortunately it’s not). Scientists at the New York University Media Research Lab have formed Touchco and are working on I.F.S.R technology, which would allow them to create touchscreens that can be produced very cheaply, and being able to sell them at $10 per square foot. These thin and flexible touchscreens would also be multi-touch enabled, enabling them to receive simultaneous touch inputs. Could this be the display technology of eBook readers in the future?

Automatic Wirelss Drink Mixer
Written by -=TyranT=-

Forget the bartender - you can always check out the Automatic Wireless Drink Mixer, which is the culmination of a bunch of students from the University of Washington Electrical Engineering undergoing the Embedded Systems EE478 class. This automatic drink mixer comes with a remote touchscreen display that allows future teetotalers to choose their preset poison of choice or make one from ground up on their own. An infrared cup sensor will know whether there is a cup is in the fixture, and if the answer is in the affirmative, only will liquid be dispensed.

Seidio rolls out more Nexus One accessories
Written by -=TyranT=-

The Nexus One third-party accessory market could potentially be as lucrative as Apple's range of iPods are at the moment, with Seidio jumping aboard the bandwagon early in order to catch the wave. It seems that Seidio will soon roll out “the ultimate accessories” for the Google Nexus One Android-powered smartphone, and no prizes for guessing that protective cases, screen guards, and desktop chargers among others are part of the equation. No word on when these accessories will be available though, but we do know that it will most probably be after the Nexus One is released.

iGuide another possible name for the Apple Tablet?
Written by -=TyranT=-

We’ve been hearing plenty of rumors regarding Apple naming its upcoming tablet the “iSlate”, which certainly seems to sound plausible. Now it seems that another name has surfaced the iGuide. The trademark was registered under iGuide Media, LLC, which purpose seems to be obtaining the trademark on behalf of Apple. The application was filed with Apple’s Senior Trademark Specialist, Regina Porter’s signature on the documents linking iGuide Media to Apple. While many folks think that iGuide may not sound too much like a Tablet, it certainly wouldn’t be too smart to couple it out of the list of possible names, right? That being said, if rumors are anything to go by, it seems like iSlate is in a better position to be the name of the Apple Tablet.
